Intermediate Mountaineering has been created for those who already posses a skill set of rock climbing or mountaineering and want to refine their skill set. It is the natural progression from and Introduction to Mountaineering course and it will give the students the opportunity to be up front leading the way and making the decisions with a little bit of coaching from and ACMG certified guide.Â
The course will work on skills such as:
- Placing gear
- Building anchors
- Route selection
- Route finding
- Movement skills
- Mountain efficiencyÂ
We will focus on creating a decision making process that you will be able to take with you for all your adventures to come.Â
Mountaineering objectives will range from snow and ice routes in Rogers Pass such as Mount Rogers. As well as technical alpine rock routes such as Mount Tupper.Â
Day 1
Meet at the trail head and start our walk into the mountains. Along the approach to camp we review our map reading skills and navigation techniques. We will arrive at our backcountry camping location and set up for the next 3 nights. The afternoon will be spent reviewing glacier travel techniques and crevasse rescue.Â
Day 2-4
These days will be spent moving in the mountains with the student leading the charge. We will have an opportunity to work on our snow and ice travel as well as rock. The goal of the movement days is to build your confidence and establish a decision making process for your mountain travel. When to go or not go, what to avoid, timing of routes, and efficiency.Â
